Situated along Korea’s South Sea, the site anchors a burgeoning urban center, strategically positioned near major logistical hubs and the industrial complexes of leading corporations. This economic gravity has transformed the area into a high-value residential market, drawing professionals and reshaping its urban identity.
The project’s design is an exploration of opportunity—responding to the site’s spatial voids and the untapped vibrancy of its context. During the competition, we analyzed not only the aesthetics and spatial conditions but also the commercial ecosystem, housing typologies, and the rhythms of daily life. Walking the site revealed what was missing: a connective heart, a stage for life to unfold.
At the core of the design lies a vast courtyard—an open and accessible “green valley” that seamlessly invites movement from all sides. This porous space redefines the podium, dissolving its mass into a public landscape of terraces, gardens, and gathering spaces. It is not merely a courtyard but a civic arena where the city’s pulse finds expression. Above this green expanse, a park exclusively for residents offers respite—a serene, elevated realm contrasting the bustling vibrancy below.
Four soaring towers rise from the podium, their slender forms carefully positioned to optimize daylight and privacy. Clad in a bamboo-inspired façade, the towers create a vertical forest, a landmark that both anchors and uplifts the skyline. The podium bridges two realms: along the streets, dynamic zigzag terraces enhance walkability, inviting commerce and interaction under their sweeping canopies. Inside, the car-free courtyard blossoms with lush greenery and public amenities—libraries, markets, and communal spaces—all seamlessly woven into the gateways.
This project transforms the generic into the extraordinary. It is an invitation to gather, a fusion of nature and urbanity, and a bold reimagining of what a city’s heart can be.
